Wildcat strikes and IOC eye opener

The fuel wildcat strike by the petroleum corporation unions became not only a joke, making them the laughing stock of everyone , but it also opened the eyes of those who thought all strikers were invincible and could bring the government to its knees. One point figured prominently in this drama, which is, thanks to the Indians we were able to carry on with our day to day activities.

This will also open a new perspective on the benefits that the joint ventures which the government is planning to have with India (such as Etca), will bring. In fact, it is widely known how relieved the Sri Lankans are, after seeing the immense benefits the Indian ambulances have brought, after the GMOA were shouting from rooftops and striking against the move. It means, all future strikes, including those by the GMOA could be blunted, neutralizing their harmful effects. The authorities must now pull up their socks and confront the challenges, like how some of the former leaders of the country did. The govt oil strikers have played right into the hands of the IOC who are obviously laughing all the way to the bank. Let us wish the days are not far off when we see Indian doctors treating Sri Lankan patients, while the GMOA pulls off another strike.
