Man shot dead in Hambantota
An unidentified man was shot dead yesterday at the court’s junction in Hambantota.
According to the Police, the assailant had arrived on a motorcycle. The victim who was admitted to the Hambantota Hospital, following the shooting, later succumbed to his injuries. Hambantota Police are investigating.
Illegal loggers nabbed
An illegal logger was nabbed in a government forest reserve in the Panajjaoya area, Mahathalawa on Friday. The man had been cutting teak trees using a chainsaw at the time of arrest.
The Police also confiscated 43 teak logs, a chainsaw, a tractor and two motorcycles. The suspect is a 33-year-old resident of Mahaoya. According to the Police, six other people had fled. Mahaoya Police are on the lookout for the suspects who escaped.
Man carrying ecstasy pills arrested
A man carrying 20 ecstasy pills on his person was arrested by the Colombo Central Law Enforcement Unit in Jayantha Weerasekara Mawatha, Maradana and handed over to the Maradana Police for further investigations. The 38-year-old suspect is a resident of Akbar Town, Wattala.
