Man struck down by train
A 39-year-old man was killed when he was struck down by a train in Laksha Uyana, Polonnaruwa on Friday night. According to the Police the train had been plying from Batticaloa to Colombo at the time.
The man had succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Hingurakgoda Hospital. The victim has been identified as Wijesinghe Mudiyanselage Asanka Wijesinghe of Polgollawatta, Gokarella.
Body found in Poddala
A body of a female was found on Friday near the Wakwella bridge in Poddala, Police said. Police have commenced investigations into the discovery. According to the Police the deceased has been identified as 75 year old Korale Kankanamge Baby Nona. Poddala Police are carrying out further investigations.
Shop ravaged by fire
A shop was ravaged by fire in Slave Island on Friday. Police say the fire had erupted inside a shop at Kumararatnam Road in Slave Island. The Fire Brigade along with the Police doused the fire. While no lives were lost in the incident, the cost of damage has not been estimated as yet. According to the Police, the cause of fire has not been identified as yet.
