Child hacked to death

A six-year-old child was hacked to death in Kotadeniyawa when her mother along with her sister was attacked by a man with a ‘manna’ knife on Friday. According to the Police the incident had occurred in the Helagama, Kituwala area and the victims had received life threatening injuries in the attack.

The child was pronounced dead on arrival to the Mirigama Hospital. The mother and surviving child have been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment. The suspect has been identified as a 47 year old male in the area. The Police say the incident had occurred over an extramarital affair between the attacked mother and the suspect.

Motorcyclist killed

A motorcyclist was killed on Friday when a private bus travelling in the opposite direction collided with the motorcycle in the Kokkumbura area along the Pelawatta-Mathugama Road.

The motorcyclist was later pronounced dead at the Meegahathenna Hospital. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Prasanga Gurusinghe, resident of Kapugoda, Polgampola. The bus driver involved in the accident has been arrested by the Meegahathenna Police.

Heroin peddler nabbed

Peliyagoda Police have arrested a man who was in possession of 2.07 grams of heroin on Friday the Police said.

Acting on a tip off the Police were able to apprehend the suspect identified as a 57 year old resident of Peliyagoda. Peliyagoda Police are carrying out further investigations into the incident.
