SK E&S (http://www.skens.com) contributed USD 20,000 to Sri Lanka when the country was struck with flooding and landslides.

On June 5, SK E&S announced that the company had presented USD 20,000 as flood relief to the Sri Lankan Embassy in Korea on June 2.

Severe flooding and landslides left the country devastated, with more than 200 dead in the southwestern part of the island.

According to the Disaster Management Ministry, Sri Lanka, the flooding and related landslides caused major damage to both life and property, with 203 people dead, 95 missing, 650,000 displaced, and about 4,500 houses damaged (as of June 5).

Given the secondary damage caused by contagious water-borne diseases and dengue fever, the government stated that the number would only grow.

Minister Counsellor Jagath Abeywarna receiving the donation at the Sri Lankan Embassy, said, “SK E&S is the first Korean company to deliver flood relief.

This will help restore the flood-ravaged areas and enable the displaced people to return to their normal lives.”

Second Secretary and Head of Chancery, Sasanga Nikapitiya also expressed his gratitude for the corporate-level aid and government aid. The Korean government announced on May 31 that it would deliver USD 300,000 worth relief to Sri Lanka.

SK E&S Vice President of Global Business Development, Moon Sang Hak said, “It is the duty of a responsible global energy corporation to deliver aid to the Sri Lankan people after such a devastating natural disaster.

The company will continue its cooperation with humanitarian relief efforts of the international community, in the future.”
