HelpAge Vesak dansala benefits over 1,000 elders

28 May, 2017

The annual Vesak dansala, conducted by HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL) with the participation of senior citizens at the H.P. Gooneratne Day Centre, Ratmalana was held at the HelpAge Head Office premises, Rattanapitiya, Borelasgamuwa.

A significant feature was the preparation of Gram by elders between ages 60 to 73. Almost all the elders, despite their age showed a keen interest in participating in various activities to make the dansala a success. People who attended admired the efficient work of the elderly citizens.

The dansala was conducted under the supervision of HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge, Assistant Accountant Chinthaka Hewage and staff members.

At least 1,000 elders and over 2,000 residents living in the surrounding areas of Ratttanapitiya, Borelasgamuwa, Navinna, Nugegoda and Wijerama attended the dansala.

The dansala commenced at 3.30 pm. Among the participants were a large number of students from the Sri Jayawardanapura University which is located next to HelpAge Head Office.

This was the first occasion a Gram dansala was conducted by HelpAge, while last year they conducted a free Medical and Eye Care dansala for the benefit of underprivileged senior citizens.
