The thirty year conflict did cease
It sometimes seems so far away
Today all Sri Lankans cherish peace
You fought to defend all people without delay
In the fierce burning heat of day
As deadly bullets flew around
When the evening sky turned pale and grey
You courageously stood your ground
They left behind their own family
Displaying altruism and hard sacrifice
Upholding our motherland’s unity
Many paid the ultimate price
In the muddy trenches you stood at night
Your rifle aimed and ready in the rain
Determined to pursue a difficult fight
So that peace may one day reign
The medal bar glows on your chest
You died in combat so gallantly
Brave comrade you did your best
Our nation celebrates victory
At the going down of the sun
Sri Lanka must rise with faith together
Multi ethnic races living as one
