President Maithripala Sirisena called on the people not to be carried away by false news published in social media pertaining to the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Sri Lanka during the Vesak week.
The President made these comments yesterday partaking in the centennial celebrations of the Oddamavadi Central College in Batticaloa.
The President said that parties attempting to sabotage the good relations the government has developed with international communities, spread false statements that the Sri Lankan government had laid plans to hand over certain parts of the country to India.
He reiterated that no such agreement
will be signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival, and that his visit is merely to partake in religious activities.
Meanwhile, the Navy has agreed to release 100 acres of land under its control to the rightful owners. Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijeguneratne who visited the area and met with the people said that steps will be taken to remove the navy camps from the demarcated lands within nine months after relocating the existing camps. This move comes following a meeting at the ministry of Defence last Monday, with the Secretary of Defence and Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs, D. M Swaminathan.
