A musical force for peace

International Jazz Day falls today – April 30. This annual event is organised by UNESCO the world over as an educational tool, a force for peace and a catalyst for unity.

This year, Havana, Cuba, is The Global Host City and some in the long list of international musicians who will perform include, Herbie Hancock, Chucho Valdes, Cassandra Wilson, Marcus Miller, Marc Antoine, Regina Carter, Kurt Elling Antonio Hart, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Esperanza Spaulding.

Here in Sri Lanka, jazz musicians will celebrate International Jazz Day with a full day program with the Harsha Makalande & Khrome ensemble initiating the celebrations.

Many well known Sri Lankan artistes will take part in the event which will have two main sections.

 

1. Workshops and demonstrations

by Sri Lankan artistes and educators

from 9 a.m. - 1.00 p.m.

 

2.Concert by Sri Lankan Jazz artistes

and Junior Khrome Ensemble.

 

The Event is held in collaboration with ACT 4; THEATRE FOR CHANGE at Talawathugoda.

Workshops and Demonstrations by Sri Lankan Jazz Artistes

 

Special workshops and demonstrations will be conducted by Sri Lankan jazz artistes at ACT4 , Thalawathugoda on April 30 morning 9:00am to 1:00pm.

This will be a great opportunity for all jazz enthusiasts, University students from music faculties, teachers in music from around the country to meet at one platform, especially, for students from the North and East universities.

Also, it would be an auspicious moment to learn and feel the spirit of jazz.
