ITAK leader meets protestors

23 April, 2017

The leader of the Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK), Parliamentarian Mavai Senathirajah, met with parents and relatives who were protesting regarding their missing children in Kilinochchi, in the vicinity of the Kandasamy temple yesterday.

Speaking to the protestors, the parliamentarian called on the people to give the Government considerable time and space to find solutions to their problems without considering the present Government as one that doesn’t give an ear to the needs of the Tamil people.

“We as a party decided to extend our support to this Government to find a lasting solution through the reconciliation process.

Although the Government has still not been able to bring about comprehensive solutions we will give them reasonable time,” the parliamentarian said.

He said that he intends to meet President Maithripala Sirisena and top officials of the government within the first week of May, at which he will discuss the struggle carried out by the parents of missing persons among other matters that will be taken up for discussion. Assuring the people gathered he mentioned that if the government fails to keep to their promises made at the UN Human Rights Council the countries that co–sponsored the resolution must pressurise the government to keep to its word.
