The National Youth Convention of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) organised by the Party’s Youth Front, after a lapse of 13 years, will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium today, April 2 at 2.00 p.m. under the auspices of SLFP Chairman, President Maithripala Sirisena and other party stalwarts. Over 10,000 youths from all districts will participate in the Convention which will be held on the theme ‘Strengthening the solution’. Senior SLFP leaders, electoral party organisers and party activists will also be present.
The youth who will participate are SLFP rural youth leaders representing each district, SLFP Youth Front Chairman Shantha Bandara told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
Steps were taken to restructure the SLFP Youth Front, set up SLFP electoral organisations and later summon the District Committees. After making these preliminary arrangements, the National Youth Convention was organised, he said. Bandara said the Convention would focus attention on a number of problems affecting the youth. Ten proposals focusing on national issues will be presented. They include proposals to make reforms in the education sector.
Another significant feature of the Convention will be the introduction of a program to provide solutions to youth unemployment
