 Woman jumps in front of train

A woman jumped in front of a train in the Mount Lavinia Police Division along with her eight month old infant on Friday. The incident had occurred between the Angulana and the Ratmalana railway stations. According to the Police the train had been plying from Kalutara to Maradana at the time. The victims, a 30-year old female and eight month old infant has not been identified yet the Police said.

Brothel raided

Officers of the Welikada Police have raided a brothel which was operating under the guise of a massage parlour. Executing a search warrant obtained the officers raided the premises located in Polduwa Road, Battaramulla on Friday while arresting the manager and four females suspected to have been working in the brothel. The female suspects arrested aged 19, 20, 21 and 23 are said to be residents of Balummahara, Thanamalwila, Ruwanwella and Wennappuwa.

Gangster nabbed

A member of an organised crime gang has been nabbed in the Wanathamulla area by the Colombo South Division Law enforcement unit. According to the Police the suspect along with other gang members would pretend to be passengers and go on to rob three wheeler drivers after threatening the driver with weapons. The gang which had made away with mobile phones, gold jewellery and cash was nabbed on a tip off through a private informant the Police said. The suspect is a 38-year old resident of Seevali Road, Borella.

Trishaw passenger dies in collision

A three wheeler and a lorry collided on the Colombo-Ratnapura road in Kosgama on Friday killing the passenger of the three wheeler. The accident had occurred around 3 pm when the lorry travelling from Colombo to Avissawella had collided with a three wheeler travelling in the opposite direction. The driver and the passenger of the three wheeler was admitted to the Avissawella hospital where the passenger later succumbed to his injuries. The deceased has been identified as 41 year old Erischandra Sirisena, resident of Wilegoda, Eheliyagoda.
