Governments worldwide are making a genuine attempt to make a difference in the lives of the average citizens, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Taranjith Singh Sandhu told guests at the inauguration ceremony of the International Relations Courses at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies yesterday. “In today’s world we continue to see rapid flights in science and technology. There is also a new focus on good governance. In other words, ‘Yahapalanaya’ has gone global,” he said. Sandhu said that with developing relationships and trends, countries have still failed to overcome terrorism completely and don’t reflect the changes that ought to be adopted.

“The year 2015 witnessed the restoration of diplomatic relations worldwide. On the other hand we also see a pause in globalization. We also see protectionism growing across continents. Over the past several decades, the world has enjoyed a peaceful exchange of products, services and ideas. “Terrorism continues unabated and its reach has spread. Some states continue to sponsor terrorism and the UN remains a forum which is not reflective of today’s rural order while Multilateralism still refuses to acknowledge the multi plurality of today’s world,” he said.

Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof. Mohan de Silva was the guest of honour.
