Army releases 7.5 acres of land to original owners

The Security Forces through the Government Agent yesterday released 7.5 acres of land in the Puthukkudiyiruppu area, in the Mullathivu District, to its original owners under the initial phase yesterday. With this release of land, the struggle carried out by the people came to an end.

This area was handed over by the security forces to the Mullathivu GA, Rupavathi Ketheeswaran who subsequently handed over the lands to its owners. This area of land had housed 19 families.

People were seen taking over of the houses that were abandoned throughout the war.

Another 10 acres will be released under the second phase in three months time to the people once Army camps are cleared from the area.

The third phase is schedule to take place in six months time where all land in that are claimed by the people will be handed over.

According to statistics, a total of 19 acres owned by 49 families were under the control of the Military. By the end of the third phase, all 19 acres will be released to its original owners.
