NDDCB to conduct 10-day treatment camps

The National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) will conduct 10-day treatment camps to attend to drug addicts countrywide shortly. These camps will provide residential facilities to the participants with meals, sanitary facilities, diagnosing by specialist doctors both Western and Eastern counsellors.

All this facilities would be provided free and they would be enlightened with evil consequences of drug addiction at special sessions to be conducted by health experts and sociologists.

It has been found that most of drug addicts are between the ages of 18-50 and 40 percent of addicts are from broken family backgrounds such as wives and children reject them due to their addiction to drugs, irresponsible life styles and harassments to family members.

A senior Asst. Secretary of the NWP-PC, A. Jayaweera Social Ministry in Kurunegala told, ‘Sunday Observer’ recently, that a number of senior students of leading schools in both Kurunegala and Puttalam districts has been found to be addicted to drugs and 48 of them have already been sent for rehabilitation processes at government hospitals.

A Senior Divisional Secretary, W.E. Jayathilake, in the Kurunegala district said that 1,488 persons were arrested by the police and excise officers of the NWP related to harmful drug-related incidents, during the year 2016.
