As the numbers entering the legal profession keep increasing at an alarming rate, Chief Justice K. Sripavan has appointed a Committee of legal experts to resolve issues in the legal education system of the country.
The Committee will be led by Shibly Azeez PC with Attorney-at-Law Amal Randeniya as convener. According to Randeniya, the committee will identify issues faced by law students and provide solutions to problems faced by them as a result of the increasing number of new lawyers. Randeniya says due to the rising numbers, providing training, apprenticeships and employment for newcomers has become a daunting task for industry experts. According to Randeniya, the committee will explore alternative avenues of employment such as outsourcing legal services to curb any future employment crisis among young lawyers. -MB
