
Sixty five dengue patients have been reported in the Wellawaya MOH area. According to the Public Health Inspector (PHI) of Wellawaya, R.M. Sasintha Kumara this is a massive hike compared to 2015.
“In 2015, 12 patients were reported and and this year it has risen to 65. Of them, 46 patients have come from outside the area and are in a critical condition. Three dengue cases have also been reported in the Hadapanagala and Kudaoya areas,” he said.
Within the several locations that were found to be prone to breed dengue mosquitoes, legal action has been instituted against owners of such lands. Meanwhile, a dengue eradication program was launched at Siribopura in the Hambantota MOH area. PHI Upul Chandana led the program with the participation of the staff of the disaster management unit of the Hambantota Urban Council and the Hambantota police.
Mreanwhile, the Nedigamwila Junior School in Tissamaharamas has achieved the first place in the dengue eradication contest among the schools in the Hambantota district.
The staff of the school staged street dramas to educate the community and the principal of Nedigamwila Junior School, C.N.H. Kumarasinha said that the staff and the students of the school are keeping the school premises clean and tidy.
