The much awaited results of the GCE Advanced Level Examination of August last year, were released yesterday with R.A Nisal Punsara of Rahula College, Matara topping the island ranking in the Biology stream (Sinhala medium) while K.D.M Amaya Dharmasiri of Maliyadeva Girls College topped the island ranking in the Physical Science stream (English medium).
M.M.A. Muditha Akalanka Rajapaksa of Ananda College, Colombo secured the first place in the Commerce stream (Sinhala medium), and R. Indeewari Gawarammana of Girls High School Kandy topped the island ranking in the Arts stream (English medium).
Meanwhile Kanagasundaram Jathursan of Skandavarodaya College, Chunnakam and K. Malithi Shashikala Dilrangi of Swarna Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya, Kegalle were placed first in the island in the Engineering Technology and Bio Systems Technology streams respectively.
However, while examination results were being shared by elated students, it has come to light that Sathyanadan Shivadurga, of Rambaikulam Girls school who was placed first in the Vavuniya district in the Mathematics stream had tragically passed away in October due to a fatal accident in Mahawa which also claimed the life of a doctor attached to the Vavuniya Hospital.
The vehicle she was travelling in had collided with a parked container truck on the Anuradhapura-Kurunegala main road.
The Department of Examinations has now announced that re-correction applications for the GCE Advanced Level Examination should be submitted before January 23. According to the Commissioner General of Examinations, W. M. N. J. Pushpakumara, school applicants should submit their re-correction forms through the principal of their respective schools while private applicants should submit their application to the Department of Examinations in the format that will be published in the print media.
Examination results were issued to the principals of schools in the Colombo and Sri Jayawardenepura educational zones yesterday morning. Pushpakumara added that results sheets of other zones will be posted to the schools. According to the Department of Examinations result sheets of private applicants will be posted to their private address.
The department has urged the public to forward any queries regarding the results to the Examination Department through numbers 0112 784 208, 0112 784 537, 0113 188 350 and 0113 140 314 while information on the results could also be obtained via the hotline.
Over 263,500 students sat for the examination.
