An appeal to Mahela and Sanga

Many of us greatly appreciated the recent sacrifice made by Mahela and Kumar in raising funds to build a cancer hospital in Galle. No living politician would venture to accomplish such a task.

Why cannot those two form a new party of honest, hardworking young men and women who would be dedicated to improving the services of this country rather than lining their own pockets, and contest the next elections?

I would guarantee that the majority of Sri Lankans would vote for them without them holding any election propaganda meetings, because we are sick of the present degenerated lot.

I am sure they will overwhelmingly displace the dishonest, unscrupulous old timers who now hold fort.

I think we need young, fresh blood to run this country and these two youngsters would be an ideal choice to lead our country and rid it of nepotism, bribery and corruption.

Prior experience and political background is not essential to lead a country and President elect of the United States Trump has shown us this.

If Justin Treudeau could do it, so could you. Please seriously consider.

Dr. Ranjan Dias

Reward or retribution?

Lately we hear news of elderly parents neglected, abandoned and cast away in homes for the aged. Rape, and murder are no more breaking news.

The dailies spotlighted the plight of a mother of 11 children housed in a Home for the Aged, none visited her and she died in that home aged 84 and the home gave her a fitting funeral (the home to be commended) and 9 of the children living didn’t come for the funeral. After the demise of this mother, the children had asked for the death certificate from the home to make Insurance claims. It is inhuman to look for benefits at one’s death. What a plight! The other mother who had bequeathed her properties, jewellery etc to her children was thrown out of home and when police intervened, the children disowned her. Sometime ago we read about a 27 year old son murdering the father, mother and sister. Also a son hacking the mother and sister. What are all these uncouth barbarians upto, in this human circle?

All religions teach to venerate parents, honour thy father and mother etc. but these have no values in a civilized society. One should realize that it is only a mother who can bring a soul into this world. The mother carries the baby tirelessly, fearlessly for 10 months and delivers into this world. The parents take care of the baby and nurse the baby to become a man or woman. Many carry a child on their shoulders with the weighty school bag to school and back often in a crowded bus! What trials and tribulations a mother undergoes in bringing up a child – many a sacrifice!

It is the duty of the children to look after their aged parents the way they looked after them when young. A majority of the present generation doesn’t seem to realize... values and you take it from me that Retribution will come one day!

At the same time there are the good also. They look at their parents as invaluable treasures and do their best and look after them in old age. There was this family of 5 children who told their parents that they have done their duty by them and now it is their chance to do their duty by them. They got together and bought an apartment for their parents to live happily the rest of their lives. Then there were these two sons and a daughter who paid a huge sum to implant a pacemaker for their father. Such should be the children! The way you treat your parents, the same way your children will treat you! Beware!

Reward or Retribution is sure to come, the way one treats their parents and one day one is sure to become old and wish to live happily to the last and it shall be the duty of the children to take every care to see to their comforts, happiness to the last. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction and it is reward or retribution in this earthly life itself. So, Act Accordingly.

Pannipitiya.
