
The government will call tenders for the setting up of a 300 megawatt combined cycle power plant at Kerawalapitiya by the Ceylon Electricity Board, as the power regular Public Utilities Commission has formally approved the request.
The PUCSL issuing a communique said that it has approved a request to call for proposals for the Natural Gas Fired (Duel Fuel) plant in Kerawalapitiya.
The power plant will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis, and connected to the Kerawalapitiya Grid Substation. The plant is to be built on 10 acres of land in Kerawalapitiya.
The Commission also said that the CEB will not bear the risks related to the fuel supply, required minimum fuel stock levels will be specified in the draft power purchase agreement and plant shall be required to supply reactive power as and when required by the transmission licensee.
