Sri Rahula College, Katugastota, one of Kandy’s oldest cricket playing schools started playing the game in the 1890s but gave up for reasons only known to them and were more involved in Football, Athletics and Hockey.
However, in the 1970s they reinstated cricket and are very much involved in the game now. This season, Sri Rahula with limited cricket facilities field a fresher-laden side under the guidance of Mahesh Bogalande. This coach, is bound to make this inexperienced Rahula side to a fighting unit.
The school has given a big hand for junior cricket and has produced top players, but unfortunately most of them are grabbed by the other schools in the region when they reach the senior level .
Sri Rahula has its own play ground adjacent to St. Anthony’s College grounds, at Katugastota.
There big match is against Wariyapola Sri Sumangala, this game was revived after eight long years last season. The two schools, Sri Rahula and Sri Sumangala have a rich cricketing history; however, during one big match the unruly behavior of the crowd forced the game to be called off .
They play in the division 111 inter tournament, and their first tournament game is fixed for 26th and 27th against Nugawella Central College at Galagedera,
The rest of the fixtures are still not finalized due to busy venue problems and not having people efficient enough to promote the game in the school. A fervent request has been made by the school authorities to the old boys to support cricket as the players are enthusiastic and extremely talented.
The rest of the tournament games are with Hanwella Rajasinghe College, Kuliyapitiya Central, St John Kotalawela College
Kurunagala, Dudley Senanayake College Tolangamuwa, Bandarawela Central and the big match with Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College. This season the Rahula is led by fourth-year player A.G.Gihan Delshan Madushanke a talented allrounder, , who is a stylish right-hand batsman and a fine leg spin bowler, from whom much is

This season, they will miss the service of Aubrey Kuruppu an experienced coach who has stepped down paving the way for his understudy to groom the side. Aubrey, is a product of St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia who played for his school, Combined Schools, University of Peradeniya, Saracens CC, State Services Central Province and Sri Lanka President’s XI . Sri Rahula will badly miss his expertise .
