Two women, a mother and her daughter, were killed and a three-year-old child and the driver of the trishaw in which they were travelling were seriously injured as the trishaw crashed into a cab when it was trying to overtake a vehicle in Madola on the Avissawella-Ratnapura road, Police said yesterday.
The incident occurred yesterday at around 4.30 a.m. while they were travelling from Ratnapura to Avissawella.
Juliette Nona (70) and her daughter Chandrawathie (40) from Thuruwila, Erannagoda succumbed to their injuries on admission to the Avissawella hospital. The three-year-old child and the trishaw driver were admitted to the Colombo National hospital in a serious condition, Police said.
The driver of the cab was arrested over the incident and Avissawella Police are conducting investigations.
