Former Navy chief launches book

Asymmetric warfare at sea: The case of Sri Lanka, the book authored by former Commander of the Navy, Admiral (Retd) Dr Jayanath Colombage, was launched at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayaka auditorium at the Naval Headquarters on Friday. Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne who was the chief guest received the first copy from the author.

Admiral (Retd) Colombage, became the first ever doctoral graduand of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, being conferred with a PhD degree. His area of study was ‘strategic studies’ focusing on ‘maritime security’ taking Sri Lanka Navy’s fight for Sea Control as a case study. This is the first time in Sri Lankan military history that a retired service commander obtained a PhD degree.

Admiral Colombage, the 18th Commander of the Navy was decorated with the Rana Sura Padakkama for gallantry and awarded several medals including the Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya and Utthama Seva Padakkama.
