WSO2 unveils ‘The Hatchery’ for start-ups

16 October, 2016

The global start-up scene has seen great momentum in recent years with content and advice with regard to funding and other aspects being available freely. However, there has not been enough done about providing solid technical advice for start-ups, particularly in Sri Lanka.

The Hatchery by WSO2 is a program that aims to fill this gap by providing technical expertise free to deserving start-ups. WSO2 itself was a start-up at one point in their journey and thus understand the difficulties and challenges a start-up would face, especially from a technology standpoint. This is WSO2’s way of giving back to the community they ‘grew up’ in.

“We’ve learnt the hard way! As part of our overall efforts to help the community, we wanted to share our learning, experiences, and knowledge in a structured way,” said Founder, CEO and Chief Architect of WSO2, Sanjiva Weerawarana. He said the program will first be rolled out to potential start-ups in Sri Lanka and will “eventually be extended to the global community.” While a large part of the program will focus on sharing WSO2’s technical expertise, there will also be some knowledge sharing on how other activities are handled, such as marketing, sales, and operations.

The first Hatchery event will be held at WSO2 offices in Colombo on November 5 and the deadline for applications is October 20.
