The Swadeshi Industrial Works PLC, a pioneer in herbal personal care products in one of its community support initiatives recently sponsored the ‘Aloka Pooja’ of the historic Wariyapola, Kolambagama Miyugunarama Raja Maha Vihara on the Poson Full Moon Poya day, ‘Swadeshi Khomba Aloka Puja Sathkaraya’ is a concept of Swadeshi Chairperson Ms. Amari Wijewardene.
Situated in the Kurunegala district, the Wariyapola, Kolambagama Miyugunarama Raja Maha Vihara is considered as one of the first temples built by King Devanampiyatissa (250-210 BC). It is said that the king built temples at every gauwa (approximately four miles) and this is considered one of the very first built by him. The temple is today more popular for its Sri Vishnu Devalaya which is built in form of a Tampita Viharaya. The temple also has an ancient Buddha statue with Varada Mudra which is uncommon in Sri Lanka.
Swadeshi Chairperson Ms. Amari Wijewardene said, “Swadeshi being a Sri Lankan company which upholds traditional values and customs considers safeguarding the culture and traditional heritage of Sri Lanka by supporting initiatives such as annual Aloka Pooja.”
