Once upon a time there was a boy named Aladdin. He was very poor.
One day, a strange man came to meet Aladdin. The man said he was Aladdin’s uncle and that he would help Aladdin.
A magician
The strange man was lying. He was not Aladdin’s uncle but a crafty magician.
The magician promised to make Aladdin very rich. The magician made a fire and black smoke billowed from it.
When the fire stopped smoking Aladdin saw a stone with a handle embedded on the ground.
A well
The magician asked Aladdin to pull the stone up. He did so and there was a deep, black well.
The magician told Aladdin that if he wanted to be rich he must go down the well. “You will see a lamp. Bring it to me. And take this ring with you.It will help you”.
Aladdin climbed down to the bottom of the well. There was a cave at the bottom of the well and from there Aladdin saw a garden.
The lamp
Aladdin went into the garden and he saw the lamp that the magician had spoken about. He took it and went back to the well. The magician called down the well and said “Give me the lamp”.
“Help me out of the well first,” said Aladdin.
The magician got very angry when Aladdin said this and he closed the mouth of the well with the stone. Aladdin was trapped in the well. Poor Aladdin went back to the garden.
He was there for three days, cold and hungry. To keep warm, he rubbed his hands and accidentally rubbed the ring the magician had given him.
There was a puff of smoke from the ring and a genie appeared.
“ I am the genie of the ring “ he said. “What is your wish”?
“I wish to go home,“ said Aladdin.
