The Crying Tree

13 February, 2022

It was early morning and I woke up, I heard something making a noise. I crept out of the house to see what it was.

As I looked outside there was nothing so I went back to bed. It was almost breakfast time and I heard my mom call out “Come on wake up, you need to eat breakfast”. I suddenly woke up and it was 8:00 am, I rushed downstairs and thought there was school. I asked my mom “What is the day today?”. “It is Saturday and eat your food or it will cool”.

After I ate I quickly ran to our garden to check what was happening, it was all as usual and I saw my friend passing by. She just told me about her village.

She said, “I went to my village recently to visit my grandparents. They were cutting down many trees. I was just thinking what would happen to our future generations without trees?”.

“Your friend speaks the truth, think of a world without trees,” said a strange voice from behind. I looked behind me but there was no one except a tree. The voice said, “It’s me the tree, don’t be afraid and don’t tell anyone be cause I am a poor tree and all the trees are almost dead, I plead with you to convince humans not to cut trees.”

We both looked at the tree, it opened its eyes and was crying. My friend and I were flabbergasted.

I told the tree, “How can you talk, trees don’t talk”. It replied, “I don’t worry if trees talk but I asked you what would happen without trees”?.

My friend and I thought what would happen without trees? No food, no water, no oxygen, no animals and finally no humans. It would be disastrous!

We both said, “It would have been disastrous, ruinous, a total catas-trophe!!” When noon came we were talking to the tree.

Suddenly, a group of woodcutters forged ahead and were trying to cut down the talking tree. We both ran into the house and told my parents and brother everything as quickly as possible.

I grabbed the telephone and called the plant police department and just in two minutes the bell rang and they went and stopped the woodcutters. Suddenly, the tree started crying with pain and then I remembered the tree cried because it got hurt and didn’t get water.

I took a large metal bucket with enough water and watered the tree. As it got water it flourished with a pretty smile.

I told the police to ban plastic bags and bottles in the city. I also asked them to make people drive vehicles less than six days a week to stop pollution and global warming, so we can breathe fresh air.

Please prevent the use of plastic and plant as many trees and flowers as you can to breathe fresh air. And trees will never cry any more!!

Hope the next generation will not cut trees.
