The United Nations General Assembly in 2003, designated December 11 as ‘International Mountain Day’. Mountains are very useful for us.
Mountains are home to 15 percent of the world’s population and a quarter of land animals and plant populations. They provide us with fresh water from the rivers and waterfalls which start from them.
Mountains give us more opportunities to develop the tourism industry and grow export crops. They also give us beauty.
As a result of human activity natural disasters are increasing. The two main causes for this are the cutting of trees and mining in mountains. We must avoid these.
Let’s protect our mountains.
