Covid-19: Information gathering app developed

1 November, 2020

The Western Province Health Services Office has developed an app for the benefit of those in the medical sector combating Covid–19.

The new app will provide vital data, including information on the infected, their close associates, quarantine, PCR testing services, observations, decision-making and areas closest to the infected.

The app was introduced by a team led by Western Province Health Services Director, Dhammika Jayalath to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, at the meeting of the Task Force on Covid-19 prevention last week. The Task Force meets at the Presidential Secretariat on a daily basis.

The President said that the new application should be improved to make information on the latest developments always available.

There are 350 Medical Officer Divisions throughout the country and infected people have been found in 28 divisions.

The members of the Task Force said that maximum possible measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the pathogen to other areas.

Around 41,000 people, including first and second associates, have been quarantined to prevent the virus from spreading.

President Rajapaksa emphasised the need to conduct random PCR tests in every part of the country.

It is important to comprehensively understand the causes for the increase in infections in several areas and prevent its recurrence. Random tests are being carried out continuously within the limits of the Colombo Municipal Council. Support of all parties is essential to prevent the virus from spreading locally through supply chains.

The President said it is the social responsibility of people of all walks of life to follow health guidelines to the maximum possible extent. Random tests should be carried out at economic centres including Dambulla.

He emphasised the importance of paying constant attention to the possible occurrence of Covid-19 clusters. The responsibility on the part of the health sector is enormous. Curfew violators should severely be dealt with and passes should be issued only in cases of extreme urgency. People should not gather in risk zones.

The President said that no opportunity should be given for people to congregate at events such as weddings and religious functions within the Western Province.

Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Secretary to the President P. B. Jayasundera, Principal Advisor to the President Lalith Weeratunga and members of the Task Force were also present.
