The number of dengue cases is expected to increase during the coming weeks due to heavy rains in most parts of the island, Chief Epidemiologist at the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said. He said over 24,000 dengue cases were reported in the island this year with most cases from the Western Province. “It is a common trend for the number of dengue cases to jump after heavy rains. We continue to receive dengue cases from all districts,” Dr. Samaraweera said.
