
Over 1,500 PCR Tests can now be done in Sri Lanka, daily, to detect Covid-19 patients. So far over 21,000 PCR Tests have been done in Sri Lanka to detect COVID-19 patients and only three percent (3%) found positive. The number of PCR Tests can be increased up to 3,000 if required. There are no patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) now, Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.
According to Dr. Jasinghe, a total of 1,869 PCR Tests were conducted on Monday (27) and 1,139 PCR Tests were conducted on Tuesday (28). A total of 1,545 PCR Tests were conducted on Wednesday (29) and another 1,397 PCR Tests conducted on Thursday (30). The number of Tests done on Friday (1) is 1,107.Contact tracing and controlling the Welisara Naval complex cluster of Covid-19 has come to the end stage and will be completed shortly.
Dr. Jasinghe pointed out that at the moment it cannot be predicted for certain whether new clusters would appear connected to the contacts of the Welisara Naval complex cluster. But the situation is under control now and health authorities are vigilant.
PCR Tests are being conducted on suspected members of the armed forces, suspected persons in selected hospitals with isolation units, workers attached to cleaning service, suspected people living in Colombo, etc.
The two big clusters reported from Bandaranaike Mawatha and Keselwatta in Colombo have been controlled, and could be extinguished soon. The majority of people in Sri Lanka understand our methodical process of controlling COVID-19, though some individuals do not yet understand it, he added.
