Curfew in ‘high-risk districts’ until May 11

Curfew in the high-risk districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttalam has been extended until May 11, the President’s Office said.

The President’s Office in a statement stated that the curfew in the other districts will be lifted at 5 am on May 4 and will be re-imposed at 8 pm on the same day and ‘night curfew’ will continue till May 6.

Islandwide curfew will be re-enforced from 8 pm on May 6. It will be effect until 5 am on May 11.

The President’s Office said that public and private sector companies in the high-risk districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, and Puttalam can resume work in offices and other operations on May 11 under strict regulations to prevent the spread of Covid 19. The statement said this was to ensure restoration of civilian life, revive economy and continue essential services.

The private companies are allowed to resume operations at 10 am and the offices must close in time for workers to return home before night time curfew. Only the essential staff is required to come to work and the employers have the freedom choose who should report to work, the statement said.

It added that public transport services will limit operations to commute employees to work and back home. Leaving homes is permitted only for essential work, the statement said.
