Veteran writer Martin Wickramasinghe

One of the greatest and the most veteran of our writers Martin Wickramasinghe was born at Malalagama in Koggala. He rendered a yeoman service in the field of Sinhala Literature. He was a great short Story writer, an exceptional novelist and a skilled literary critic. He had his primary education in Bonavista College. Later, he studied languages, such as Sinhala, Pali and Sanskrit. Martin Wickramasinghe’s first novel was “Leela” and the first story was “Geheniyak.” And also the Gamperaliya, Kaliyugaya and Yuganthaya are some of his famous novels. He is very popular among children. The best example for this is the novel “Madol Doowa.” It won the hearts of children all over the country. Martin Wickramasinghe remains in the minds of people forever as a great writer.
