On July 29, 2019, our school organised an educational excursion to the Martin Wickremasinghe house and folk museum.
Martin Wickremasinghe was an author who took Sinhala literature to a new avenue and wrote fascinating books for adults and children.
When we arrived at the museum, we were warmly welcomed by a tour guide, who gave us a summary on the life of Martin Wickremasinghe. He explained the importance and benefits of visiting such a historical place. In my opinion, our visit was able to give us extra knowledge on Sri Lankan history, as we could witness old culture and ancient society through Martin Wickremasinghe’s house and the museum.
After the guide's explanation was over, we thanked him and proceeded to the folk museum. There, we saw boats, old farming tools, blacksmith tools, clothes of different cultures, educational utensils used ages ago and historical items that might have come from generations ago.
As it was a very hot sunny day, we decided to go to the hotel immediately. We were welcomed by the waiters of Hikka Trans with a welcome drink. The lunch was delightful and scrumptious.
Finally, it was time for us to go back to school and we thanked the hotel and our teachers for giving us their time and organising such a wonderful trip. We also thanked the bus driver for taking us back safely home.
