29 September, 2019

Our country has many famous people. Among them, C.W.W Kannangara was a great son of our country. He was born in Ambalangoda on October 13, 1884. He went to Richmond College, Galle. He was a very clever student, but faced lot of problems.

He started his profession as a teacher. He became a lawyer and was a clever politician too. He did a great service to Mother Lanka. He was the first Minister of Education in our country. He started the scholarship examinations in our schools. He also gave a mid-day meal to the needy children. Today we enjoy free education because of him. He is known as the ‘Father of Free Education.’ He was a very brave social worker. He passed away on September 23, 1969. We are proud of this great son of our soil. We are in debt to him.
