The annual inter-house sports meet of our school was held recently. There are four houses in our school: Lihini, Thisara, Maura and Paravi. The Provincial Minister of Education was the chief guest. The sport meet started at 2 pm with the captains of the four houses lighting the Olympic torch.
There were many events, such as 100 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, long jump, high jump, discus throw and shot putt. A large crowd of parents and past pupils and well wishers came to witness the meet.
During the break, students and visitors were provided with refreshments. There were several interesting events after the break. They were the teachers race and parents race. By 6 pm, all the events were over. Thisara house came first, Paravi second, Maura third and Lihini fourth. The chief guest awarded the prizes and certificates to the winners. He gave a speech expressing the value of sports and sportsmanship. The principle and the members of the staff thanked all the students for all the hard work and for a successful sports meet.
