
Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the world’s largest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31, 2016. It is twice the size of the Statue of Liberty, in America.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first deputy Prime Minister of India. He is also known as the ‘Iron Man of India’. He studied law using borrowed books.
The statue is located some 200km from the main city of Ahmedabad. It is 182 metres tall. The project cost 430 million USD. The statue generates about 15,000 direct jobs every year. The statue includes a unique museum and audio-visual department depicting the life and time of Sardar Patel. A special boat service is available to access the statue and the surrounding area.
The statute is called ‘Statue of Unity’ and is the symbol of the country’s unity and integrity. It will help develop the tourism industry in India.
