The independence day of Sri Lanka is celebrated on February 4 every year. Sri Lanka gained freedom from British rule in 1948. It is a national holiday in Sri Lanka. The President raises the national flag and addresses the nation. It is celebrated all over the country. Sri Lankans hoist the national flag in offices, schools, houses and in vehicles. School children sing the national anthem. We see military parades on that day. They perform a 21 gun salute to mark the occasion.
