The Easala perahera

23 June, 2019

The Esala perahera is a religious festival held in the month of August in Kandy. It is a procession of whip lashers, drummers, dancers, flag bearers and elephants dressed beautifully in rich and colourful garments.

The Maligawa elephant carries the sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. The four Devala perahera that join the procession are Vishnu, Natha, Kataragama and Pattini.
