Instagram says that it now has more than one billion active users. The news comes less than a year after it reported reaching the 800 million mark. The number shows that Instagram is surging in popularity, particularly with younger audiences.
Instagram has now hit the same milestone as other facebook-owned social apps – including Messenger (1.3bn), WhatsApp (1.5bn) and facebook itself which has 2.2 billion users.
Instagram has also announced that a new feature enabling some users to share long-form videos up to one-hour. It means Instagram’s video time limit increases from one minute to 10 minutes for most users.
