The coconut tree is very tall. It grows mostly in the coastal areas. Its nuts are used for cooking and to take oil. Coir is used for making mats, carpets, wall hangings and ropes. The leaves are used to make roofs. Its trunk is used to make furniture. Because of these factors the coconut tree is known as the 'wish-fulfilling tree.'
