Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo held its avurudu festival recently, where students turned up in their avurudu attire. All avurudu traditions were observed by the students including nonagathaya, kiri ithiraweerma, ganu denu, eating the first avurudu meal and wada elleema. The youngsters were treated to a whole day of celebrations which was a welcome change to the usual class work. Children engaged in avurudu games such as the balloon competition, tug o’ war, lime and spoon race, sack race and piñata among others which were enjoyed by the students.
