‘Funvention 2017’ : A unique festival of fun and education

27 August, 2017

On September 1, 2 and 3 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) Colombo will be treated to a unique event (perhaps the first ever in the country) – an ‘Edutainment’ Festival – ‘Funvention 2017’ organized by the Musaeus College Past Pupils’ Association. The ‘Edutainment’ (coined word from Education and Entertainment) festival will offer three magical days for children, young people and their families to roam freely in a spacious venue, comprising numerous zones of learning, fun and entertainment”. Large crowds, mainly children and young people are expected to attend the festival, which will be held at the Thurstan College Cricket Grounds.

This extraordinary event was conceptualized by the organizers with the objective of providing a fun-filled educational experience for children, young people and their families, given the dearth of diversity in the forms of entertainment in the country, and in particular, the absence of educational entertainment, where people could have fun while learning. The three day festival comprises separate ‘Zones’ of activity, which will be attractively set up in theme colours. Each Zone will have a number of diverse activities, which will take place in parallel with those of other Zones.

There will also be career guidance sessions and many established higher education institutions will have their information stations at the venue, to facilitate school leavers to obtain necessary information and guidance regarding their pursuit of higher education.

The Festival will be launched on Friday, September 1, at 6 p.m. with a mega musical evening titled, ‘Euphoria’ starring popular singers and musicians, including Bathiya & Santhush, Umariya, Lahiru, Sanuka, Billy Fernando with 2FoRTy2 and many more, including a spectacular Fireworks display.

The project is organized to raise funds, inter alia, towards rebuilding the Musaeus College Auditorium, which burnt down on November 4, 2016.
