New bus route

The mass of commuters that travel to Pitakotte along the Negombo Road, say, from Ja-Ela, have to board three buses to reach their destination, that is, Ja-Ela to Armour Street; Armour Street to Rajagiriya; and Rajagiriya to Pitakotte .

Hence, we would be grateful if the Ministry of Transport could allocate a few buses to operate on a new route, i.e. from Ja-Ela via the New Bridge, Dematagoda, Kolonnawa, Rajagiriya, Etul Kotte and then Pitakotte.

This route could be extended to Nugegoda, if necessary. We urge the Transport Ministry to please consider this request.

Attacks on places of worship

The recent statement of the Prime Minister that racism and religious tensions would never be allowed again to destabilize the country is most welcome, when interested parties are on the verge of creating communal disharmony by attacking places of worship.

The recently emerged communal hatred outfits have already commenced slandering and disrespecting religions.

The actions of these outfits cannot be condoned any further because its severe rampage has reached to unprecedented levels, not abiding by the lawe of the country.

It is a matter of fact that these members have taken law into their hands and intimidate the police when the latter tries to maintain law and order at a time of a crisis.

These outfits have become outlawed organizations which should be controlled. After many years of prolonged ethnic war the country has been successfully liberated and is now on a peaceful march towards economic prosperity and political stability.

If an extremist organization is creating disharmony or chaos between communities or among people it should be eliminated to protect the country’s image and welfare.

The authorities should take action to prevent such communal hatred unleashed by extremist elements in the country.
