It’s hard to believe that it’s been a full year since Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion blessed us with the summertime anthem, “WAP,” but here we are.
The highly acclaimed (and highly controversial) song is officially celebrating its first birthday, and it would seem as though Cardi and Megan have their eyes on future projects together.
In honour of the song’s WAP-iversary, Cardi shared a snap from the music video on Twitter, writing, “Wow I can’t believe wappity WAP turned one today. It don’t even feel like it. What a record! @theestallion, we should do it again sometime.”
It seems as though Meg is just as into the idea of reuniting for another project, as she responded with, “Happy WAPIVERSARY.
“Thank you for having me , I think the people deserve another collab.” Um, yes we do!
Cardi and Megan officially released the track on August 7, 2020 along with the accompanying video featuring Kylie Jenner and Normani. Once the song and video exploded onto the scene, it remained the talk of social media for weeks, even getting its very own TikTok challenge. It went on to generate plenty of memes and even helped inspire some safety PSAs in the time of coronavirus.
While “WAP” skyrocketed to iconic-level fame almost immediately upon its release, fans were disappointed when it was noticeably absent from this year’s Grammy noms. But Cardi later explained that she didn’t submit the track for consideration.
“Like I said, I never pressed for a Grammy, but y’all not gonna take away something that I know I worked my ass off [for], that I deserve,” the rapper told her fans during an IG Live back in November.
“If I was pressed for a Grammy I would’ve submitted ‘WAP’ for this year and I didn’t submit it. I don’t want to be submitted to award shows until I put out my album because I think my album is so good. It means something.”
