Tribute to a great musician: A Film Festival with music directed by Pandit Amaradeva

A Film Festival consisting of seven remarkable Sinhala films with outstanding music compositions by the late Pandit Amaradeva will be held from November 1 to 4 at the National Film Corporation, Tharanganee Hall.

The Film Festival is one of the commemorative events organized by the Amaradeva Foundation in reminiscence of the third death anniversary of Pandit Amaradeva, the great musician of our time. The Festival has lined up seven Sinhala films, namely, Gamperaliya, Delowak Athara, Thunman Handiya, Wesathuru Siritha, Tharangaa, Ransalu and Madolduwa and is open to the public free of charge. A short description about the film will be presented by a veteran in the field of Art before every screening.

With the objective of preserving Pandit Amaradeva’s musical heritage and his creations for future generations, the Amaradeva Foundation has planned several long-term projects and this Film Festival is organized as a special event to celebrate his creativity.

The Amaradeva Foundation which has already conducted several international music educational programs and workshops under the conservation and entertainment program, has planned to host a series of programs to highlight Pandit Amaradeva’s immense contribution to the field of music and its unique identity.

According to a concept of the late musician, the ‘Amaradeva Asapuwa’ is currently under construction at the ‘Ape Gama’ premises in Battaramulla to achieve his objectives, and will be formally opened in the near future.
