Made a great contribution displaying immense loyalty
Vast man-made reservoirs and massive structures

This all-round upsurge did not last long

Portuguese, Dutch and the British, the Western powers
Their supreme idea was to enrich their coffers
“From 1505 to 1948” this changed the entire situation

Out of the three, the last, more refined - the British
Who worked for the interest of both were gracious
Enough to work for the benefit of the subjects
Because to win the support of the people was their object
The colonial masters with their missionary colleges of distinction
Provided the opportunity to the needy for higher education
It culminated in the demand for University education
The University was an unparalleled creation
“CWW Kannangara” respected as the Father of free education
During his tenure as Minister made the greatest contribution
Free education, then the University and the concept
Of Central Schools opened doors for rural intelligentsia to learn with respect
All in all, their enthusiasm blossomed into brilliance
Leading them to the joyous occasion of Independence
The National Flag, Anthem and Costume, all were given prominence
Giving credit to the national leaders of eminence
The torch lit by the heroes was carried forward
By the successive governments with a convincing record
Then came three decades of terrorism creating chaos and turmoil
Which put an end to all development in Lankan soil
Creating peace and harmony for co-existence
War heroes are not forgotten to be honoured with reverence
From here onwards a new era is going to be witnessed
There will be no necessity to recollect
But to keep in touch and be blessed
With ongoing modern trends of globalisation
Purely for the good of the future generation
Intellect will recollect.
