Rukshan Perera Live In Concert VI

25 December, 2016

Rukshan launched his third DVD at Curve on December 14, 2016 in aid of the Sunera Foundation that promotes disability arts. What’s special about Rukshan’s DVDs is that all songs are Rukshan’s compositions and arrangements in a variety of styles and genres.

The concert starts with the theme song Walk On The Rainbow with Rukshan on Harmonica, and is dedicated to the Differently Abled children in Sri Lanka and the Sunera Foundation. Angel in My Hand is sure to bring back beautiful memories and the joyful emotions all parents experience holding their newborn for the first time. With a big-band sounding brass arrangements and a jazz scatting tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and George Benson titled, ‘Cool Cats’ takes the audience to that special jazz world.

A unique fusion of classical songs with humorous lyrics is one of a kind masterpiece with Sureka Amarasinghe on piano, together with a violin trio and Colombo Brass Ensemble joining in with four singers in harmony. Rukshan also has three songs for peace loving Sri Lankans – Eka Mavekuge Daruvo (a song on racial and religious harmony), Bless Our Land Sri Lanka, and He’s Out, a special dedication for Sri Lankan cricketers. While keeping a very high musical standard, this DVD does not fail to entertain the audience with some fun songs and humorous acts on stage – Rajitha Rupesingha joins Rukshan on Gossip Queen and entertains the audience, while a real gossiper on stage gossiping on the phone! Acting as a drunkard, Clifford Richards sings Seeya Biwwa Wine and gets the audience moving with him.

This DVD also contains well-known Sri Lankan tunes with Rukshan’s interpretations and arrangements. Specially arranged a cappella medleys of Clarence Wijewardena and Nimal Mendis’ Master Sir with special acts to bring out the emotions on stage featuring Choro Calibre will take you back to the wonderful 70s music with new interpretations and harmony on stage.

The DVD is an ideal gift for a music lover while supporting Differently Abled Children through the Sunera Foundation promoting disability arts. You may purchase the DVD at Torana (Liberty Plaza), Fashion Optics (Flower Road), Yamaha and Barefoot.
