Householders who don’t keep their premises and gardens free from mosquito breeding grounds will be fined from next week as the Dengue fever is spreading rapidly in the country.

Kurunegala DMO S.M.A. Priyadarshana told the Sunday Observer that several religious places including some Buddhist temples had been found to have mosquito larvae in their premises and those in charge of such places would be fined for not keeping the places free from mosquito breeding grounds.

He said around 1,458 householders were fined during the past three months for having mosquito-breeding grounds in their premises.

Priyadarshana said about 2,400 PHI s and 8,000 Family Health Nurses would be deployed from tomorrow to visit houses to ensure that their premises are kept free from mosquito breeding grounds.

From January this year, nearly 42,000 positive Dengue cases had been reported to the Health Ministry of whom 26 had died. The Health Ministry has identified Colombo and Gampaha as the districts that have reported the highest number of positive Dengue cases. Nearly 67 MOH divisions have been identified as the most risky Dengue zones.

He said the Education Ministry has also informed all school heads to organise shramadana campaigns with the participation of old boys, parents and well-wishers tomorrow when schools reopen after the GCE (OL) examination - 2022. Nearly 32 students who were infected with Dengue were unable to sit the GCE (OL) examination last week, he added.
