Two young archers from Sri Lanka were able to qualify to participate in the World Archery Youth Championship to be held in Ireland from July 1 to 9.

In fact the Sri Lanka Archery Association (SLAA) wanted to select a dozen young archers consisting six boys and six girls in the age categories of under-18 and 20 to represent Sri Lanka but only two boys were able to reach the qualifying marks.

The qualifying marks that were set to achieve were 570 marks for boys and 550 marks for girls. Trials were held on May 18 and 19 at the Archery Range on Torrington Avenue by the side of the CR & FC ground.

Thisal Dinsara of Ananda College is an AL student and is under-20 years and will be competing in the 70 metre event. He has been participating in archery for the past seven years and has won many awards and school Colours.

The under-18 boy is Lakindu Gunarathna of S. Thomas’College, Mount Lavinia who will be participating in the 60 metres event. He too has been in the sport for some time and has won many awards and achieved records too. (TBR)
